Christmas Vacation in Cuba

Christmas, the holy occasion celebrating the birth of Christ, is celebrated with zest and festivity in almost all parts of the world, with no exception to the Cuban nation. However, it is very recently that Christmas is being celebrated as a national event in Cuba. The country, which was so far an atheist nation, allowed Christmas to be celebrated as a religious festival for the last 3 years only. Christmas Vacation in Cuba is now considered as one of the most vibrant and colorful events in the Cuban calendar. It is regarded as a state holiday, when all schools and colleges remain closed. Since there are a number of exotic locations within the country, you can enjoy a fun filled Christmas Vacation in Cuba, coupled with some exciting trips.

Christmas celebrations in Cuba
A major population of Cuba adopts Roman Catholicism as their religion. Catholicism made its appearance in Cuba long back with the advent of the Spaniards. The Christmas customs, rituals and belief practiced among the Cuban Christians is almost like those prevalent among the Hispanic race in America. It was since the year 1998 that Christmas is being officially celebrated, after having received the consent of the Holy Pope John Paul II.

The preparations for Christmas begin as early as the mid week of December. The 24th of December marks the eve of Christmas, when Cubans go for Holy masses. The end of the midnight mass is marked with gala dance celebrations along with danzon music, popularly called “La Noche Buena”. The celebrations end finally with the Holy Epiphany on the 6th of January, when children receive gifts from the Magi.

Christmas cuisine in Cuba
The event of Christ's Birth is always coupled with a delectable Cuban gourmet along with some fine beverages. Roasted turkey, smoked bacon and a whole lot of sausages is a typical meal served during Christmas in Cuba. The roasted whole pig flavored with several ingredients is also a typical Cuban delight.
